Solid solution

From Pharmpedia

Solid solutions are homogeneous one phase system which exhibit a mixed crystal.

The particle size of the drug in the solid solution is reduced to its molecular size. Thus a solid solution can achieve a faster dissolution rate than the corresponding eutectic mixture.

The solid phases constiting the eutactic each contain one componant and the system may be regarrded as an intimate crystalline mixture of one component in the other.

Where as in solid solution each solid phase contains both componant. i.e. a solid solue is dissolved in a solid solventto give a mixed crystal.
